Client stopped replying right after I sent the invoice

Wrapped up the project last week and sent the invoice. Everything had gone smoothly up to that point - good communication, quick replies.

Since the invoice went out, nothing. No response at all. It’s been five days now, and that’s not normal for them.

Feels like they might be avoiding the bill, but I’m not sure. Just trying to figure out what to do next without seeming too pushy.

Been there, done that. Pretty common in freelancing.

A few things to consider:

  1. Give it a bit more time
  2. Check your spam folder
  3. Double-check you sent it to the right email

If still nothing by next week, shoot a quick follow-up. Keep it light:

‘Hey [Client], just checking in. Wanted to make sure you got the invoice I sent last week. Let me know if you need anything else from my end.’

No need to stress yet. Clients get busy, emails get lost. It happens.

If you don’t hear back after that, give them a ring. Most times it’s just an oversight, not them dodging the bill.

For future projects, set clear payment terms upfront. Saves you from sweating these situations.

I’ve been there. Sometimes clients get swamped and forget.

Give it another week. Then send a friendly reminder email.

If that doesn’t work, pick up the phone and call them. Most times it’s just an oversight, not a deliberate dodge.

Always get payment terms in writing before starting work. Saves headaches later.

Been down this road many times. Five days isn’t a big deal yet.

Last month, I sent an invoice to a regular client. Didn’t hear back for a week. Turns out their accounts person was out sick.

Here’s what I do now:

Wait about 10 days. Then send a quick email. Something like:

‘Hey [Name], just checking if you got the invoice I sent on [date]. Let me know if you need anything else.’

Most times, that does the trick. If not, I’ll call after a few more days.

One tip: I started putting due dates on all my invoices. Really helps avoid the guessing game on when to follow up.

Don’t sweat it too much right now. Chances are they’re just busy or the email got buried.

Five days isn’t that long. Could be anything: vacation, busy week, email got buried. I’d wait til next Monday, then send a friendly follow-up. Just ask if they got the invoice and if they need anything else from you. Keep it short and casual. If you still don’t hear back after that, give them a call. Most times it’s nothing to worry about, but stay on top of it. You did the work, you deserve to get paid.

Had that happen once. Guy went on vacation right after I fixed his fridge. Forgot to tell me. Maybe give it a few more days before you start freaking out.

Happens sometimes. Folks get busy or forget.

Give 'em a quick ring next week.

No big deal.
