Dealt with a client wanting to use a check recently. It’s been over a week, and I’m still waiting.
Honestly, considering dropping check payments altogether. Feels outdated and slow, but I can’t help but wonder if it’ll scare clients away.

I accept checks but add a $25 fee. Most clients switch to electronic payments quickly after that.
For those who still prefer checks, the fee compensates for the time I spend handling deposits and waiting for them to clear. I always request payment upfront when they choose this method.
I still accept checks but don’t wait around for them anymore. Electronic payments are net 15, checks are net 30. That extra time covers mailing and bank processing. Clients who mail checks know they’re slowing things down. Most switch to electronic once they see the difference.
Ditched checks two years ago - best decision ever. The waiting game got old fast.
What I did:
Most people actually like electronic better. The ones who complained? Usually not clients worth keeping anyway.
Yeah, you’ll lose a couple people upfront, but the time and sanity you get back is worth way more.
