Specifying refund terms on invoices for new clients

Been thinking about adding refund terms to my invoices lately. Never really had to deal with it before, but with more new clients coming in, I’m wondering if it’s time.

Not sure if it’ll scare off potential clients or if it’s just good business practice. Anyone else include refund terms? How’s it working out?

Refunds? Never thought about it. I just do the job and get paid. Seems like extra paperwork to me.

Never bothered with refund terms myself. Just do quality work and it’s not an issue. If a client’s unhappy, I’d rather talk it out and fix the problem. That said, if you’re dealing with a lot of new folks, maybe it’s worth considering. Keep it simple though. Something like ‘Full refund within a week if not satisfied’ could work. Just be ready to honor it if someone asks. Remember, good communication usually prevents needing refunds in the first place.

I’ve been including refund terms on my invoices for about a year now. It’s not scared off any clients so far.

My terms are pretty simple - full refund within 7 days if they’re not happy, 50% refund within 14 days. After that, no refunds.

It’s actually helped me land a few clients who were on the fence. They felt more comfortable knowing there was a way out if things didn’t work out.

Only had to give one refund so far. It stung a bit, but it was way better than dealing with an unhappy client or potential legal issues.

Just make sure your terms are clear and easy to understand. No lawyer speak. And be ready to stand by them if a client does ask for a refund.

I’ve been thinking about this too. Never used refund terms before, but lately I’m considering it. Here’s my take:

Pros:

  • Gives new clients some peace of mind
  • Shows you’re confident in your work
  • Could help land hesitant clients

Cons:

  • Might make some people nervous
  • Extra stuff to manage
  • Could lead to more refund requests

If you do it, keep it super simple. Maybe something like:

  • Full refund within 5 days
  • Half refund within 10 days
  • After that, we’ll work something out

Just make sure you can actually follow through if someone asks for money back. And yeah, good work and clear communication are still the best way to avoid refunds altogether.

What about you guys? Anyone else thinking of adding refund terms?

Refund terms? Nah, never bothered. Most jobs go fine without it. If something’s wrong, I just fix it. No need for fancy paperwork in my line of work.

I don’t bother with refund terms. Just focus on doing good work and getting paid on time.

If a client’s unhappy, I’d rather talk it out and fix the issue. Keeps things simpler.

For new clients, I ask for a deposit upfront. That way we both have some skin in the game. Works well enough for me.
